Motorola Droid Pro finally receiving Gingerbread update

Motorola initially told customers that they would be soon sending out the Gingerbread update to many of its Droid devices. About a week later, the Droid Pro update was supposedly already heading out to users. This unfortunately was false, and started a summer of few Gingerbread updates for the Motorola devices mostly due to trouble with the software.

Now, Motorola and Verizon are trying to make things right this fall, and they have just sent out the Gingerbread update for the Motorola Droid Pro. Verizon updated its support documents to show the release of software update 4.6.8.XT610. The update will obviously include Gingerbread and many tweaks/improvements specific to the Droid Pro including improved battery life, the GPS will no longer cause the Droid Pro to reset, and several tweaks to SMS.

Multiple users have reported that they are already receiving the update. If you happen to own a Droid Pro, let us know whether or not you have received the update yet and how the update process was if you have already done so.

    Nah, you’re mistaken. It’s got a decent 1ghz processor, good performance, and it’s a higher tier phone in the last generation. It came out in late summer 2010. It’s not well adopted, since it’s sort of niche, but it’s a decent phone nonetheless. Plus it’s getting Gingerbread, which is nice.

    I live in Europe. I have downloaded the update but have not installed it yet. Bought a SIM lock free Droid Pro from ebay. Will the Gingerbread update lock my phone?

    My phone just started downloading the update 7 minutes ago. At first I had no idea what it was, but then when I realized my phone was taking forever to down the “Downloading Updates” file I realized what it was! I’m so freaking pumped! HELL YES! Gingerbread is finally here!

    I really don’t see how this “update” is of any benefit.
    It sets the look of the text messages back about 20 years. 
    The dark coloring makes it incredibly hard to see if you have any notifications. 
    My background wallpaper no longer shows when I am trying to unlock my phone, just a dark screen.  
    Please let me know if there is any way I can get back to the better version.

    Wow, it makes your text messages look like they did 20 years ago, in 1991?  Are they delivered by the US Postal Service, or do they come by fax?

    I got the update today – took maybe 15 to download and another 5 to install.  I haven’t spent much time checking it out, but don’t care for the new interface. The status area appears to GLOW in the dark.  screen is darker and I can’t remove anchored widgets on the home screen – which means there is room for accidental dial/texting.  Will update upon further investigating of the update.

    I received my update this afternoon. Good thing I knew it was coming from random reading, as not only did it take some time to complete-it really changes the look of the phone! There is therefore a bit of a learning curve. The new snazzier look is so far all i’ve really noticed, but i’m sure i will discover other changes over time.

    I just got the update and it completely changed the appearance of my phone.  The colors and styling are goofy and highly obnoxious now.  What the hell??  I’m fine with an update the fixes glitches, but it’s pretty unacceptable to send out an update that completely changes the appearance and layout of your phone.  Remarkable how clunky and retro the appearance is now.  WTF??

    Mine downloaded a few minutes ago and now I want to return my Droid Pro and go with a different phone. I chose the phone because I liked it and now I am stuck with something I don’t care for. The update is ugly and useless to me.

    Got it 2 days ago and so far so good.  It took a little bit to figure out how to put what I wanted on the dock bar, but other than that everything went perfect.  I like the dark notification bar and love the double-tap of home to show thumbnails of all your pages.  Extended battery life seems good.  As far as the text app people are complaining about, why not just use Handcent like the rest of us Droid owners?  The built-in texting always sucked anyway. Try it, you’ll like it

    Just got updated this morning, at first glance everything seems fine… but I cant seem to find the ability to go my the main menu to see all of my applications, settings, etc. Any Ideas???? Other than that I dont mind the changed style too much.

    Hate it, I’m sure I’ll get around the ugly new interface just fine, but it broke WidgetLocker, which is the only reason I kept the Droid Pro.  If I have to keep using the power button to wake the phone up constantly, I’m going to end up smashing the phone and buying something else.  I don’t understand why Google doesn’t have hardward button wake built into the interface in the first place.
    (i have in a wall mount holster at work, can’t use the power button, so much easier to tap the touchscreen to wake up the screen and tap backspace to unlock phone)

    got it a couple days ago, droid pro was very glitchy, now it works, who cares about the appearance?!
