UK: SIM-free Nokia Lumia 800 delayed until January

If you’re in the UK and are anxiously waiting for the Nokia Lumia 800 to go on sale, we hope you have nothing against long-term contracts with operators. Alternatively, you could also be fine with waiting a couple of months longer to get your hands on the Lumia 800.
Why is that? Well, according to well known online mobile retailer Clove, the Lumia 800 will only become available in SIM-free and unlocked form sometime in January. Strangely though, the smartphone isn’t delayed per se, as it’s going to be out on November 16 just as expected – but only on contract at various operators or their third-party partners.
We’ve seen delayed devices before, and a delay would certainly be nothing new for Nokia itself, but a delay just for the unlocked phones? That’s not something you see every day. Obviously, the reasoning here has to be that Nokia can’t make enough Lumia 800s, at least not at first. But choosing to prioritize operator-sold handsets in this way is something quite new. Perhaps it has something to do with all that money that both Nokia and Microsoft will pump into the Lumia’s marketing.
Anyway, unless the Finnish phone maker suddenly changes its mind (again), if you’d like your Lumia 800 to be network unlocked and SIM-free you’ll have to wait until January. We’re quite confident though that the majority of British folk get their handsets from their friendly neighborhood operator store, so there will be plenty of Lumia 800s on the streets in the UK before the end of this year.
