Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Android 2.3 Gingerbread update finally rolling out

What can we say to owners of Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G other than it’s been a long and bumpy ride, but hey, at least it’s over now? We’re referring to the saga of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the aforementioned device. But first let’s not forget that this isn’t the first time the Epic 4G has had update issues. In fact, its update to Android 2.2 Froyo was delayed, and finally was anything but timely.

So here we go again. But there’s some good (if very late) news. Sprint has officially announced that Gingerbread is on its way to an Epic 4G near you. The rollout has started today. The update comes over-the-air, and as such your phone should notify you when it becomes available. The rollout may be staggered, so it may take a few days for the update to reach your particular device.

Aside from the platform upgrade to Gingerbread, this update also brings HTML support for Exchange ActiveSync email, Bluetooth headset sound improvements, and the date now being visible on the lockscreen.

After the update is performed, your Epic 4G should run software version EI22.

Its about some fXXXin time there. I was giving up but there is light at the end of some tunnel after all. Its time for the Holidays and I want Gingerbread. Is that too much to ask Sprint? Samsung? Anyone?Well I heard in the next 10 day and that is as of 2 days ago, just counting down. Trust me I am not expecting Ice Cream Sandwhich, lol. Is there a leaked sight I can get my nasty hands on? just kidding they are not nasty but how bout that leak?

I had the same thing happen to me. Did you find out anything yet? Is your phone rooted?

I just downloaded the update and now my phone won’t boot up. It keeps switching back and forth between the power on animation and the galaxy s logo. I tried removing the battery and replacing it and that didn’t work. Anyone else having problems?

The notification is just to make you aware the update is forethcoming. They said they are rolling the actual  update out over the next 2 weeks.  When the update is really there to install you get t message asking if you want to do it now or later.  I am actually going through the update as I write this.  Wish me luck.  It rebooted my phone and it’s been sitting on the Samsung splash screen ever since.  Hopefully, something is going on in the background.

Was your phone rooted? Also did you get it going and how does it look, any real changes?  Thanks

I am having the same problem, and tech support says I will have to have a hard reset.  There has to be a better way!
