Samsung Galaxy S i9000 to get a Value Pack update instead of Android Ice Cream Sandwich?

Samsung recently said that the original Galaxy S i9000 and the Galaxy Tab P1000 would not be updated to Android 4.0. However, a few days later, it stated that it’s still investigating the possibility of bringing ICS to the two devices.

Now a new report from Korea is claiming that the Galaxy S i9000 will almost certainly not get Android ICS. Instead, it looks like Samsung is readying a Value Pack update for the smartphone, which should bring enhancements to make the Gingerbread experience similar to what you get with ICS (new widgets, camera improvements, improved web browsing and so on).

Of course, we still have to wait for Samsung to officially confirm this.

It wouldn’t be the first time when Samsung wants to offer a Value Pack instead of a proper OS update – it’s doing the same with the Wave 525 and Wave 533 smartphones, which can’t be updated to Bada 2.0 because of hardware limitations.

But, then why do not they update SGS Plus i9001 to ICS? That phone has same specs as “SE Xperia Arc S” which is getting ICS treatment.
They cannot say that i9001 cannot run ICS because of “hardware limitations”. And that phone is still on sale in many telekom operators shops.
Even LG announced ICS for Optimus Black which is weaker than i9001. I want to know why Samsung refuse to update i9001???

i9001 is mid- to low-range device from Samsung, arc is SE high-end (yes. they suck). i9000 was flagship last year. geeks buy high-end, and want updates for at least 18 months, those who buy cheaper phones don’t care for updates that much so it doesn’t pay off to them. same applies to Tab.

The limitation is not regarding specs, but the size of /system partition which cannot accomodate ICS.

What are you talking about? Look at comparison:
    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4134&idPhone2=3908

SGS+ has 2GB ROM and ARC S has 1GB ROM.
And you say it cannot accommodate?
