Sony Xperia S (Nozomi) official details leak ahead of imminent announcement
The oft-leaked Nozomi has finally received an official name. However, it won’t be called Xperia HD or Xperia Arc HD, and the Ericsson brand is also gone, just like with the Xperia Ion announced earlier today for AT&T. The Nozomi will be sold as the Sony Xperia S, which is thankfully a shorter name than what we’ve gotten used to from this manufacturer. That said, the ‘S’ suffix trend should probably have gone out of fashion at least a year ago.
Anyway, the Sony Xperia S may get unveiled officially before CES closes its doors (which haven’t even opened yet), since all the details about it have leaked today. Here are some official photos:
The Sony Xperia S will have a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, a 12 MP camera with 1080p HD video recording, a 1.3 MP front-facing camera with 720p HD video support, a 4.3-inch 1280×720 touchscreen, HDMI, NFC, 32 GB of built-in storage, a 1,750 mAh battery, plus all the usual bells and whistles such as Wi-Fi, HSPA, Bluetooth, and so on. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of this year, so before the end of June.
The Xperia S is PlayStation Certified and will launch in the first quarter (before the end of March) in black and silver (as seen above).
The Xperia S may be Sony’s Android-powered flagship for international markets, as the Xperia Ion looks like an AT&T exclusive for now. Anyway, it should be announced soon, so stay tuned.
