Until now, we’ve heard quite a few rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S III, and we’ll certainly hear more until the smartphone gets to be officially announced. The latest piece of info regarding the new Galaxy flagship comes from the Netherlands: According to MobileCowboys and a source of theirs (which claims to have seen a list of upcoming Samsung products), the S III should be released in Turkey on March 13.
Assuming this is true, the new handset should also be out in other European markets at about the same time, and, thus, an official announcement at MWC in late February would not be surprising. However, this contradicts previous reports, which had it that Samsung decided to postpone the unveiling of the device for another event, post MWC.
I’d say it’s rather improbable that we’ll actually see the S III hitting the shelves in March. But it’s not impossible, either. After all, Apple can announce iPhones (or iPads) and release them almost immediately after that. Why wouldn’t Samsung be able to do the same?
Anyway, when the S III will be finally out, it will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board. Its other rumored features include a quad-core processor (to match the power of HTC’s upcoming handsets), a large Super AMOLED HD display, some new software tweaks, enhanced battery life, and a 12MP camera on the back. Most likely, LTE connectivity will be included, too, at least in the versions for the North America market, where LTE is becoming a standard for high-end handsets.
Galaxy S III aside, MobileCowboys.nl also mentions two other unannounced devices: the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus, and the Samsung Galaxy Note S. There’s no word on what these might bring, but it’s said that they could be out in November or December – “no later than the end of the year”. I don’t really see the need for a Plus version of the S II (not with the S III coming soon, and the Galaxy S Advance just announced), but a new Galaxy Note is likely going to be unveiled at some point – the GT-N8000 and GT-N8010 possibly being two Galaxy Note successors.
We’ll dig for more details on Samsung’s upcoming Android devices, including that rumored higher-end Galaxy Nexus, and let you know as soon as we hear something of interest.
