Samsung suggests the Galaxy Note 10.1 is better than Apple’s new iPad when it comes to content creation
Yesterday, Apple has proudly announced its third-generation iPad, which stupidly doesn’t have a proper name, so we’ll just call it the new iPad. Or simply the iPad – but that way you could mistake it for the first-generation iPad. Well, whatever.
The new iPad runs iOS 5.1, and brings lots of enhancements over the previous model (iPad 2), including a Retina Display with 2048 x 1536 pixels, A5X dual-core chip with quad-core graphics, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 5MP iSight camera.
Even so, Samsung – known for legally battling with Apple over patents for quite a while now – thinks its brand new Galaxy Note 10.1 is better than the new iPad. At least in some aspects.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 was showcased at MWC 2012 in Barcelona last week, and features the same S Pen technology found on the 5.3 inch Galaxy Note (sold in more than 2 million units until now). Other than that, the tablet is not too different from the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (also announced recently).
According to Samsung, the Note 10.1 bests the new iPad when it comes to content creation. The South Korean company has even provided a comparison grid to showcase the Note’s advantages. These include: the ability to view two apps at the same time and work with them side by side, optimization for precision drawing and writing, precision image editing, and copy and paste between two side by side apps. Moreover, the Note 10.1 has expandable memory (via MicroSD), USB 2.0, and is thinner and lighter than the new iPad.
Yes, it looks like the Galaxy Note 10.1 may be better than the new iPad in these departments. But it’s still a dual-core tablet with a 1280 x 800 display – and that is obviously no match for the dual-core iPad with its 2048 x 1536 display resolution (the highest ever found on a tablet). Not to mention the fact that many see iOS as being superior to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The new Apple iPad will be available starting March 16, and is already on pre-order for prices starting at $499 (16GB Wi-Fi-only version). The Galaxy Note 10.1’s exact launch date is not known, but Samsung said the tablet would become available sometime this quarter – thus before the end of June.
