Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S III now in production, pre-orders are higher than ever

Last week, Samsung officially confirmed that the successor to its Galaxy S II flagship smartphone – likely called Samsung Galaxy S III – would not be introduced in April, as some rumors had it.

Even so, Eldar Murtazin (known for having access to various inside sources – although he’s still wrong at times) reports that the Galaxy S III is “finalized”, and has entered production. Moreover, he says that pre-orders (from retailers and mobile operators) for the new handset are higher than for any other Galaxy product. Murtazin also seems to confirm that the S III will have a ceramic case, as rumored not long ago.

The device’s other features should include a 4.8 inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixels, 1.5GHz quad-core processor, and LTE connectivity.

For now, Samsung’s official word on the Galaxy S III launch is that it will happen in the first half of the year, hence in June the latest. The new Galaxy will likely become Samsung’s second smartphone to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich from day one, after the Galaxy Nexus. We will bring new details on the device as soon as we have them.

    Samsung needs to release the phone fast. They also need to release their flagship tablet fast. Just can’t wait. They already missed the boat regarding their tablet. If they released their flagship tablet before iPad3 that would have helped them a lot in terms of capturing market share, but they just Samsung themselves as far as that goes. Now they need to release the phone before they also Samsung themselves in the phone market and let HTC steal that one too.
