Sony intros waterproof Xperia Acro S (LT26w) with Android 4.0 ICS, and Xperia Go / Advance (ST27i)
Sony has just announced two new Android smartphones that are presented as being “stylish, sleek, and durable”: Xperia Acro S (model number LT26w), and Xperia Go (model number ST27i).
The Sony Xperia Acro S builds on the success of the Acro HD. Unlike that handset, which was and is a Japan-only affair, the new Acro will be internationally available. The smartphone is dust and water resistant (IP55 and IP57), and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
The Xperia Acro S is certainly a high-end device, featuring:
- 4.3 inch scratch-resistant Reality Display with 1280 x 720 pixels, Sony Bravia Mobile engine, and wet finger tracking
- HSPA+, NFC (compatible with Xperia Smart Tags), Wi-Fi, DLNA, GPS (with GLONASS)
- xLOUD entertainment
- PlayStation Certification
- Sony Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited
- HDMI out
- 12MP rear camera with “Pulsed LED” flash and 1080p video recording
- 720p HD front-facing camera
- 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 16GB of internal memory
- MicroSD card support (up to 32GB)
- 1910 mAh battery
- 126 x 66 x 11.9 mm
- 147 grams
Sony says the Acro S will be available starting the third quarter of the year, in three color versions: black, white, and pink. The handset’s price has not been unveiled.
The second new device, the Xperia Go (previously known as Xperia Lotus), is IP67-certified, hence having “the highest level of dust and water resistance you can find in a smartphone.” The Go is smaller than the Acro S, only sporting a 3.5 inch display with 480 x 320 pixels (luckily, this screen is also scratch-resistant, and comes with wet finger tracking technology). Other features:
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread (upgradeable to Android 4.0 ICS)
- HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, DLNA
- 50GB of free cloud storage (BOX offer available to 31 December 2012)
- 5MP rear camera with flash and 720p video recording
- 1 GHz dual-core ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 processor
- 512MB of RAM
- 8GB of internal memory
- MicroSD card support (up to 32GB)
- 1305 mAh battery
- 111 x 60.3 x 9.8 mm
- 110 grams
Like the Acro S, the Sony Xperia Go will be available starting the third quarter around the world, in three color versions (black, white, yellow). In the US, the handset will be called Sony Xperia Advance. There’s no info on pricing yet.
