Sony Xperia Ion spotted in red. ST21i Tapioca to be called Xperia Tipo, should have a dual SIM version
Available only in Taiwan for now, and coming soon to Hong Kong, the Sony Xperia Ion has a third color version, alongside the black and white ones that were officially unveiled at CES 2012 back in January.
The new version is a red one (pictured below), and it has appeared over at Sony Mobile’s official website. Unfortunately for those who want to see it on AT&T, this red Ion is the HSPA edition that’s going to be released in Europe, not the LTE-enabled American one. Of course, until AT&T finally decides to start selling the handset, it may consider having the red flavor, too. We’ll probably find out soon if that’s the case.
In other Sony Mobile news, we’re hearing that the ST21i Tapioca might be officially announced as the Sony Xperia Tipo. Moreover, XperiaBlog reports that the smartphone will have a dual SIM version, unsurprisingly called Xperia Tipo Dual.
As previously mentioned, the Xperia Tapioca / Tipo is an entry-level smartphone, featuring a 3.2 inch HVGA display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3MP rear camera with Flash, 512MB of RAM, and an 800MHz processor. Both the single SIM, and dual SIM versions will run Android 4.0 ICS.
The Xperia Tipo will be a direct competitor to HTC’s new Desire C, which also runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and comes with relatively similar specs.
