Huawei Ascend Mate: We are bigger than Samsung Galaxy Note II. 6.1” 1080p display, own 1.8GHz q-core CPU

So. How do you feel about phablets? I’m not into this kind of stuff. It’s just too big for me.

Still. You know what they say arguing about taste.

If you liked Samsung Galaxy Note or Note II, you may love what Huawei has coming up.

9.9 mm thick 6.1” 1080p display phablet – with 2GB of RAM, 4000 mAh battery and it’s own quad-core 1.8 GHz K3V3 CPU- called Huawei Ascend Mate.

We don’t have any pictures of the thing yet. It was just something someone stumbled on Huawei’s China website. But if it’s there, it is coming sooner or later, right?

Hope so. For one – it will most likely be cheaper than uber priced Samsung Notes. And, I’m still interested to see how big of a display/form factor you can get away with, and expect a device to be among smartphones, not tablets.

Huawei Mate is really a really interesting case.

Also, it’s now been a year since Samsung invented the category. A year!  There isn’t a single competitive device with the least bit of good amount of sales, still.

I guess, doing real innovation, creating a new category of devices, does really pay off. You get at least a year, maybe several, to run around unchecked, improve on your new concept. While everyone else is running around trying to copy and improve upon you.  And you reap the big bucks in the meantime.

How long it lasts – it depends on how good your initial breakthrough was. For Apple/iPhone it lasted at least 5 years. For Samsung’s phablet? My guess – 2 years at the outside.

I’m all for big phones. Everyone has various needs and different hand sizes. But let’s be honest: unless this phone has ZERO bezel, it’s too big.

And when I say ZERO bezel, I mean it has to be not only zero bezel on the sides, but the top and bottom as well. They would have to integrate the mics, cameras, and ear pieces into the display.

Impossible? Maybe. But it seems it would be the only way to make this available to even the niche market that buys ‘phablet’ devices.

Hello? Zack Morris? Are you there?

“They would have to integrate the mics, cameras, and ear pieces into the display…”

    Impossible? No:

Likely to happen this year or next? No, too 🙂

Sony are also introducing a Phablet with almost the same specs, 1080p Display, 6 inches, S4 snapdragon Pro Quad, 2GB of RAM and running 4.1.1. Don’t know how large the battery is though. It may be the crazy insane 498 ppi resolution.

I’m not sure this is too big an issue.
Spooks have been using glass surfaces to pick up sound for years and any glass surface could provide the contact surface for all the buttons you need.
Hiding a front facing camera would be a piece of cake.
Am I on the right track …. ?
