Motorola Droid RAZR HD, Droid RAZR MAXX HD Android 4.1 update announced by Verizon, rollout imminent
Now that Motorola is part of Google, it really has no excuse for launching flagship smartphones running last year’s software. But the company went and did that anyway with the Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR MAXX HD. Since September, we’ve been anxiously waiting for these two to be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. And now that update is almost here. So take a moment to ignore that Android 4.2 was released by the same Google that owns Motorola in the meantime, and enjoy this.
Verizon has posted the official support documents discussing the update, which means the start of its rollout is pretty much imminent. It’s usually just a few days before the updating starts, after these details have been posted online. Of course, you need to prepare yourself for the other possibility as well – this may take a couple of weeks or so to happen. It isn’t like that generally, but in rare cases it did happen.
And yes, the rollout will almost certainly be staggered and as such your particular device may not get it for a while even after it’s commenced. But all of those things are nothing compared to the joy you feel now knowing for sure that a tasty Jelly Bean treat is in fact headed to your handset. Right?
After applying the update, your phone will be on software version 9.1.41. Aside from the usual JB bits and pieces (improved notifications, Google Now, Project Butter, the smart keyboard), the update also contains some Motorola and Verizon-specific stuff. Namely, some old Verizon bloatware has been removed, the Amazon apps have been added (a requisite for smartphones on Big Red nowdays), the Moto calendar app has been improved, and voice and data connectivity should be better too.
