ZTE Blade III lands in the UK at Virgin, yours for £79.99 on PAYG
First spotted in August of last year, and then officially unveiled in September, the ZTE Blade III has now finally made the jump to the UK. It arrived over there as an exclusive to Virgin Mobile, at least for the time being.
The ZTE Blade III has a 4-inch 480×800 touchscreen, a 1 GHz single-core processor, a 5 MP rear camera, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of built-in storage space, microSD card support, all the usual connectivity options (sans LTE, of course), and a 1,600 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (now two full versions behind). Its dimensions are 120.5×63.5×10.85 mm, and it weighs 133 grams.
Looking at the specs, you might think this isn’t much to write home about. You’d be right, naturally. It could, however, easily have been a flagship device just a few years ago. And after all, its main feature is the price.
That’s because you can purchase a ZTE Blade III from Virgin Mobile right now for just £79.99 on Pay as you go. That includes £10 of credit, by the way. So you don’t have to pay £10 extra for the usual ‘complimentary’ top-up. Since you can use that £10 you get for calls and texts, this essentially means you’re getting the phone for just £69.99. That’s pretty amazing, we’d say, despite the aging specs and ancient Android version.
So this may make a good second (or third?) phone or one for someone who hasn’t had a smartphone before.
Obviously the Blade III is also offered with contracts. The cheapest one is £18 per month and it nets you the handset for free. If you want unlimited texts, you’ll need to pony up £23 per month, and for the biggest package the price is £31 per month. That includes unlimited landline calls, 2,500 minutes, unlimited texts, and unlimited data.
