UK: Huawei Ascend W1 to be an O2 exclusive, out on March 7. Free from £13.50 per month, £119 on PAYG
The Huawei Ascend W1 will be in stores at O2 in the UK starting on March 7. For about a couple of weeks now we’ve known that the Chinese company’s first Windows Phone would be headed to that particular operator. However, up until today no details about pricing or a release date have been available.
If you’re interested in picking up the Ascend W1 on contract, know that it will be free with plans starting at £13.50 per month. If, on the other hand, you despise long-term agreements with operators, you’ll be happy to know that the W1 will also be offered on Pay as you go. In that case you’ll need to cough up £119 for the device.
This is one of the lowest prices we’ve ever seen for a Windows Phone in the UK, and it may just be the lowest ‘official’ (read:non-promotional) pricing ever for a smartphone running Windows Phone 8. So it’s definitely a good deal if you’re looking for a cheap handset.
The Huawei Ascend W1 is going to be exclusive to O2. On March 7 only the blue model will be available, while the pink one will make its way into stores on March 18.
The Ascend W1 has a 4-inch 480×800 IPS touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, a 5 MP camera with LED flash, 4 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and a 1,950 mAh battery.
