Sprint may launch purple Samsung Galaxy S III on April 12, definitely won’t carry the BlackBerry Z10

Sure, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is on track to be unveiled next Thursday, but that doesn’t mean that the Galaxy S III will vanish from stores and carriers’ rosters just like that. No, in fact Sprint is apparently getting ready to stock a new version of Samsung’s still-current flagship smartphone.

According to what’s purported to be a leaked internal document from the Now Network, a purple Galaxy S III with 16 GB of internal storage should become available on April 12. This is interesting, because it’s the first time we’ve heard about such a hue choice for the Galaxy S III. Which is also why we can’t show you what it looks like just yet.

Samsung loves to launch new colors for its smartphones many months after they’ve gone on sale, as a way to refresh people’s perceptions about them, so this is hardly a surprising step. In case it’s real, we expect that images depicting the purple variant of the Galaxy S III will be leaked in the next month or so. Stick around, and we’ll show them to you once we get a hold of them.

We don’t have a price for the purple Galaxy S III at this point, but we see no reason for it to be any different than what Sprint charges for the differently colored units that it sells today.

Also in Sprint-related news, the Now Network will be the only one of the ‘big four’ carriers in the US not to offer the BlackBerry Z10, the first smartphone to run the new BlackBerry 10 operating system coming from the Canadian company. This however doesn’t mean that Sprint won’t have a BB10-running device on sale in the future. In fact, the carrier is looking forward to adding the upcoming BlackBerry Q10 to its roster. This will be the first handset to run BB10 and sport a physical QWERTY keyboard too, and it will have that classic BlackBerry styling. Apparently Sprint thinks that will be more successful for BlackBerry than the all-touch Z10. Or for its customers who want a BlackBerry, at least.

Anyway, a rather strange decision, this. So know that if you’re on Sprint and want your next smartphone to be a BlackBerry Z10, you’ll simply have to move to another carrier. Likewise, if you’ve been contemplating moving to Sprint while also wanting a Z10 as your device, you’ll have to think of something else.
