Nokia Lumia 510 now available in the UK for just £85
The Lumia 510 was announced by Nokia in October last year as its cheapest Windows Phone ever, with the caveat that it runs Windows Phone 7.x, and not Windows Phone 8 – the new version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system. Furthermore, the Lumia 510 will never get updated to WP8 (just like all the other 7.x devices). That said, it is an incredibly cheap device.
And it’s just become available in the UK. Not at Phones 4U, where we first spotted it in January in a ‘Coming Soon’ listing (which was immediately pulled), but at Tesco Mobile. If you want to get an affordable handset that runs Windows Phone, you probably won’t find anything cheaper than this.
£85. That’s how much you need to pay for the Lumia 510 at Tesco Mobile. This is obviously on Pay as you go, so there are no long-term contracts to sign, or monthly plans you simply have to get.
The Lumia 510’s specs are nothing to write home about, but at this price that may easily be forgiven. The phone has a 4-inch 480×800 touchscreen, an 800 MHz processor, a 5 MP camera, 256 MB of RAM, 4 GB of non-expandable internal storage space, and a 1,300 mAh battery.
The model Tesco sells runs Windows Phone 7.8 out of the box, which is interesting since the update to this version of the OS may have been suspended according to certain rumors. In case you’re wondering, WP 7.8 brings some of the features from WP8 down to the 7.x devices.
