Neo N003 confirmed to be world’s cheapest 1080p smartphone, full specs and pricing leaked
Last week we told you that the upcoming Neo N003 may just be the world’s cheapest smartphone ever to come with a Full HD, 1080p touchscreen. The rumored price? 899 yuan, or around $145. For some, that seemed pretty hard to believe. But it’s true. While the information back then was from a ‘source’ inside the company, now Neo itself has announced the specs and pricing for the N003. It will have two versions, the Youth and the Premium, but both will get the 1080p screen.
In fact, in terms of hardware, the only differences between the two will be the amount of RAM (1 GB for Youth, 2 GB for Premium), internal storage space (8 GB for Youth, 32 GB for Premium), and the front-facing camera (0.3 MP for Youth, 3 MP for Premium). Other than that, the two devices will be identical.
As for pricing, as you may have gathered the $145 level applies to the Youth edition, while the Premium N003 will retail for 1,299 yuan, which is around $210. Still incredibly cheap, even so.
The common specs are: 5″ 1080p touchscreen, quad-core 1.2 GHz MediaTek MT6589 processor, 13 MP Sony rear camera, Yamaha speakers, a 3,000 mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean running the show.
Both versions of the Neo N003 will become available in April, in China only. One can only hope that devices with such price/features ratios will eventually make their way elsewhere.
