LG, Pantech want in on smart watch buzz too. LG says it also has its own Google Glass type of thing
The first solid rumors that Apple is working on iWatch got everyone scrambling to get in on the smart watch buzz.
First – Samsung joined in with a semi-official announcement of its own smart watch efforts. Late last week we’ve heard that Google’s Android team is developing wrist wearable device too.
Now LG and Pantech want in on this vaporware craze.
According to anonymous source who talked to Korea Times, LG is developing the next generation smart watch and Google Glass type product too.
“It is one major part of many currently non-commercialized products under development by LG Electronics,” said the source. “The company has spared no efforts to invest in products that it believes are must-haves to stay ahead technology wise in the market, whatever the situation maybe.”
Not to be left behind, Pantech decided today to release a concept watch design of its own:
They don’t claim it is an actual product. Only a result of a workshop/competition it organized for design students to draw up next generation mobile products. Still, it can’t hurt getting Pantech’s name next to all the new hoopla around smartphone companions that have been around for years.
It’s a funny thing Apple has started with a couple of well placed controlled leaks. Reminds of the tablet craze before iPad came out and how everyone was scrambling to out-Apple Apple with a tablet of their own, before they even knew what Apple has. Of course, everyone else had to scramble their designs and go back to the drawing board as soon as iPad was announced. And it took two years for the first viable Android tablets to ship.
Well, maybe this time Samsung or LG or Google or Pantech will get lucky. But probably not.
