HTC Butterfly sequel in the works
HTC seems happy with the sales of the Butterfly, its first smartphone to come with a 1080p Full HD touchscreen. This was launched in Japan first as the J Butterfly back in October of 2012, and since then it’s been made available in other markets too. It’s also the base for Verizon’s HTC Droid DNA, but now that the HTC One has been announced, some may have had doubts about the possible future of the Butterfly.
It turns out that there’s a new Butterfly coming. It will keep the branding, because HTC sees no reason to change it at this point. So the One won’t be the only high-end offering to come out of the Taiwanese company this year after all, it will just be the only one to be called One.
The new Butterfly is due ‘soon’, and it will certainly have at least a 5-inch screen. So from this point of view it will nicely complement the One in HTC’s portfolio. HTC may decide to go even larger than 5″, but nothing is clear just yet – except for the fact that there will be a new HTC Butterfly out in the wild in the near future. We’ll keep you posted.
