LG Optimus G2 coming with Snapdragon 800 CPU?
A previously unseen LG D801 has been benchmarked recently (here), allowing us to see it’s using Qualcomm’s latest MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 processor (with Adreno 330 GPU). It is the first smartphone to be caught with this new CPU (ZTE’s Grand Memo is supposed to use it, too, but only in a version that’s not going to be available right away).
Blog of Mobile (in Japanese) suggests the D801 is the Optimus G2. The handset runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and has a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display. Unfortunately, that’s all we know about it for the moment.
As you can see in the screenshots above, the LG D801 / Optimus G2 clearly eclipses current high-end devices (like the Apple iPhone 5, or iPad 4) when it comes to CPU and GPU performance.
There is no word on when LG is planning to announce this new handset. But we’ll certainly let you know when further details show up.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 should be also used in Google’s upcoming Motorola X high-end smartphone, which could be officially unveiled in May.
