Mogu Tiger S2: Android, 4″ screen, dual-core CPU, dual-SIM support, $49
No, you didn’t read the title wrong. That price isn’t missing a digit. The upcoming Mogu Tiger S2 is an Android smartphone that will cost around $49. Without a contract, naturally. SIM-free and unlocked, as they say.
The first caveat, and the biggest of them all, is something you’re probably expecting anyway: it will only be available in China – as most incredibly affordable Android devices are in this day and age.
Next up, do note that the Mogu Tiger S2 runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is a very old version of the OS. And while normally we’d be up in arms about that, in the case of a less-than-$50 phone, we’re only going to list it as a caveat. This is $49, after all.
The actual specs of the S2 aren’t that bad, however. It comes with a 4-inch touchscreen (resolution unknown, hopefully not lower than 480×800), a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, dual-SIM support with dual-standby, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and an FM radio.
It will be on sale soon for 299 yuan, around $49 or €37 at the current exchange rates. Needless to say, in most other parts of the world, such a sum only nets you a featurephone, and a low-spec one at that.
