ZTE Geek with Android Jelly Bean and Intel Z2580 Clover Trail+ CPU announced
About a month ago, ZTE mentioned that the Grand X IN would not be its only Intel Atom-powered smartphone. And today the company has officially announced a new handset based on an Intel’s chipset.
Called ZTE Geek (that’s a questionable name choice), the smartphone is a pretty large one, coming with a 5 inch HD (1280 x 720) display. It is the world’s second handset to feature Intel’s new Z2580 Clover Trail+ processor (2GHz dual-core), after the Lenovo K900. Reportedly, the Z2580 is “twice as fast for computing and three times as fast for graphics” when “compared to Intel’s previous processor.”
Running Android Jelly Bean, the ZTE Geek also offers: HSPA, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, 8MP rear camera, 1MP front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, 2,300 mAh battery, and wireless charging capabilities.
“Our recent collaboration with Intel on the ZTE GEEK builds off of the success of the Grand Series and further enhances our competitiveness in the high-end smartphone market. This partnership also will improve customer experiences by providing them with more choices in the market,” declared Mr. He Shiyou, ZTE EVP and Head of the Mobile Devices Division.
ZTE did not say when where, and for how much the Geek will be available. But we’ll find out soon, and let you know.
