5.7-inch ZTE N988 gets certified in China, looks like a cross between a Grand S and a Grand Memo
ZTE likes the design of its Grand S. Like Samsung before it, ZTE seems to think that having very similarly designed phones across an entire range will make it more successful or recognizable as a brand. Or both.
So it’s applying this strategy. At least it is so in its native China. The ZTE N988 is yet another Grand S-lookalike that has surfaced today because it got certified for use and sale in China by the relevant authorities over there. We get pictures showing the device from all angles, as well as some specs.
The ZTE N988 comes with a 5.7-inch 720p HD touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front camera, a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, as well as 2 GB of RAM. The exact chipset used is unknown, as are any other specs at this point. The N988 runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and it’s just 6.9 mm thin.
The N988 definitely looks like a variation of the Grand Memo that was unveiled in February, since most of the specs seem to be the same (interestingly though the front camera is different, gaining a megapixel in the process). That said, the back of this handset looks a lot more like the Grand S than the Grand Memo. Quite the mystery, then. One thing is certain, though – this will be out in China soon. As for seeing it anywhere else, don’t get your hopes up.
