Nokia phablet in the works, Lumia 920 succesor – Catwalk- pics surface, 41 mpx EOS launch scheduled for July
For the first quarter of this year, Nokia has been surprisingly quiet. While everyone was busy announcing their new flagships in January – March, Nokia only launched 1 low end (Lumia 520) and one mid-tier device (Lumia 720) at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
But now this quiet period seems to be coming to an end, and we can expect a bunch of new and interesting products coming out of Finland in the next few months.
We already covered Lumia 920 successors – aluminum chassis Nokia Catwalk and Lumia 928 for Verizon, that should be announced in mid May. Now we may have a live picture of Nokia’s first aluminum device:
And, just as we thought, Catwalk will be the only high end Nokia handset for May announcement.
Its first true PureView 41 mpx Windows Phone – Nokia EOS – is pegged for July launch, according to Financial Times. Furthermore , according to the British paper, Nokia is also working on a Lumia phablet, that will be “similar in size but with more advanced specifications to Samsung’s popular Galaxy Note”. Another lower priced Lumia is also in the works for the fall launch.
With all these new devices just around the corner, is Nokia turn-around finally starting?
We’ll know in a few hours when Nokia reports Q1 2013 numbers, gives guidance for the Q2 and, hopefully, for the rest of the year. The fact that Nokia didn’t have a profit warning earlier this month, and didn’t feel the need for premature product announcements to buttress quarterly results, makes me cautiously optimistic.
But I’ll wait for Nokia management conference call discussing Q1 results later today, to be sure.
