Huawei A199 gets official as China Telecom’s Ascend G710
Remember the Huawei Ascend G710 that was leaked in February? Well, that hasn’t been announced just yet – but something incredibly similar is now known as the Huawei A199 in China.
The A199 has become official today, and it comes with a 5-inch 720p HD touchscreen, a quad-core 1.5 GHz Huawei K3V2 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, microSD card slot for expansion, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 1.3 MP front camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 2,150 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean complete with Huawei’s own Emotion UI on top.
The Huawei A199 comes with dual-mode dual-SIM support, so it can work on a CDMA network and on a GSM network at the same time.
This model bears China Telecom’s logo on the back, which makes sense when you consider the aforementioned CDMA support (China Telecom is the only CDMA carrier in China). Furthermore, this carrier has lately launched many dual-mode smartphones, surely in the hopes of bringing over customers from its two bigger rivals China Mobile and China Unicom.
The Huawei A199 will almost certainly never make it to ‘developed markets’, at least not as the A199. We might see it in a few places as the Ascend G710, perhaps with a minor alteration here and there, at some point in the future. We’ll let you know when we find out more.
