China-bound MeituKiss HD has 8 MP front camera, quad-core CPU, runs Android 4.2
The time has come for the Oppo Ulike 2 to move over, as there’s a new king in town. A king in terms of sheer number of megapixels crammed into a smartphone’s front facing camera, that is.
It’s called MeituKiss HD. It has an 8 MP rear camera, which is nothing spectacular really in this day and age. But it also comes with an 8 MP front camera. That’s right, the phone’s got dual 8 MP shooters. So the 5 MP front camera in the Oppo Ulike 2 now looks pretty outdated in comparison.
Once again, like the Ulike 2 before it, this – the MeituKiss HD – is a smartphone aimed at women. The high-res front-facing camera is there to enable easy use as a mirror of sorts, and also aids in taking great self shots.
While it’s the only spec that has any chance of breaking any records, the front camera isn’t the only decent thing packed inside the MeituKiss HD. The handset also has a 4.5-inch 720p HD touchscreen, a quad-core 1.2 GHz MediaTek MT6589 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage space, a microSD card slot, as well as dual-SIM support. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Pricing information isn’t available yet, but the MeituKiss HD will be in stores in China (where else?) on May 16. The chances of this making its way to other territories are extremely slim to none, so don’t get your hopes up. That said, there’s an entire trend among Chinese smartphone makers to put better and better front cameras in their wares, a trend which we hope will also be picked up on by the more internationally-focused brands.
