Samsung Galaxy S III launching at Boost and Virgin Mobile this summer. Waterproof Kyocera Hydro Edge headed to Sprint
Sprint has announced that its subsidiaries Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile would launch the Samsung Galaxy S III starting June. Yes, the S III isn’t a new device, and it’s been eclipsed by the Galaxy S4, but its availability through Boost and Virgin will allow customers to buy the handset on flexible no-contract plans.
Exact pricing details haven’t been unveiled, but we know that the S III from Boost and Virgin will run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean at launch, being compatible with Sprint’s LTE network.
Sprint has also unveiled the Kyocera Hydro Edge – a new waterproof smartphone that’s “built to withstand sprayed water, or submersion in up to 3.28 feet of fresh water for 30 minutes.”
The Hydro Edge runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, featuring a 4 inch display, dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm CPU, Smart Sonic Receiver technology (for enhanced audio quality in noisy environments), and a 5MP rear camera. It will be available at Sprint and Boost “this summer” for an unknown price.
“Kyocera Hydro Edge is the next generation of the original Kyocera Hydro, which launched at Boost Mobile in 2012 and has been a top seller ever since. People clearly see the value of an affordable smartphone that’s also waterproof. With Hydro Edge, we’re keeping those core values while taking performance to a new level,” declared Eric Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of global sales and marketing at Kyocera Communications Inc.
