Samsung Galaxy Young arrives in the UK this weekend, yours for £89.99 on PAYG

The Samsung Galaxy Young was announced back in February alongside the Galaxy Fame. Both of these are cheap low-end Android smartphones, with the Galaxy Young possibly acting like a successor to the Galaxy Y from yesteryear. These handsets clearly have ‘emerging markets’ in mind first and foremost, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see them being offered in more developed parts of the world too.

This is just what is about to happen in the UK, where the Galaxy Young is set to land this weekend. The phone will be offered by both O2 and the Carphone Warehouse. You’ll be able to pick one up for free provided you sign a contract with the operator, and the cheapest option costs just £9.5 per month. Alternatively, you’ll have the option of buying the Galaxy Young on Pay as you go, in which case you’ll need to shell out £89.99.

Dirt cheap, then, as expected. The Galaxy Young will surely make a decent second phone for someone, or even a first (ever) smartphone for others. That’s definitely what O2 is thinking in offering it.

The Samsung Galaxy Young has 3.2-inch 320×480 touchscreen, a 3 MP rear camera, a 1 GHz single-core processor, 768 MB of RAM, 4 GB of built-in storage space, a microSD card slot, 7.2 Mbps HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1,300 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
