Sony Xperia S gets its Android 4.1 update for real starting today. Xperia SL and Xperia Acro S too
Last week Sony’s arm in France said that the update to Android 4.1 for the Xperia S started rolling out. But that was just a mistake, as revealed not much later by the company’s German wing. Well, if you own an Xperia S and have been waiting for this update, it’s time to celebrate. This time it’s really rolling out. Or so we hope.
The Xperia S isn’t the only Sony device to get its first (and hopefully not last) bite of Jelly Bean. Joining it for the party are the Xperia SL and the Xperia Acro S.
According to Xperia Blog, owners of the Xperia S in France are seeing the update as available in Sony’s desktop PC companion app. And they have the screenshots to prove it, so let’s hope this is it. Unfortunately though it’s still unclear if you’ll also be able to get the update over-the-air, without the need to use a computer to apply it.
As is always the case with Sony software updates, the rollout will start in certain countries only, and then slowly expand. First to get updated are devices bought unlocked and unsubsidized, whereas specific carrier versions are last on the list (if they ever do get the update at all, that is). So be patient even if the update isn’t showing up for you just yet, it’s certainly on the way.
Expect to find Project Butter and Google Now inside, as well as some improvements from Sony such as updated apps.
