Samsung Galaxy Note II gets a software update (still Android 4.1.2)
Samsung has started rolling out a software update for its Galaxy Note II – the GT-N7100 version. Unfortunately, the update doesn’t bring Android 4.2.2, so the handset still runs Android 4.1.2.
According to Sam Mobile, the update should be available as of now in most European countries via Kies, or over the air. It’s a stability update that solves battery drain problems and brings various bug fixes.
We don’t know if the US versions of the Note II – including those sold by Verizon (SCH-I605), AT&T (SGH-I317), Sprint (SPH-L900) and T-Mobile (SGH-T889) – will get the software update.
As for Android 4.2.2, this should be available to Galaxy Note II users sometime in the third quarter of the year. The Galaxy S3 should receive it at about the same time.
Later this year, possibly in September, Samsung will introduce the next-generation Galaxy Note phablet, most-likely called Note III. This could run Android 4.3 at launch – depending on when Google releases the new version of the OS.
