LG G2 may be announced on August 7th at New York launch event
LG’s may announce its next flagship – G2 – a bit earlier than expected, on August 7th.
After the success of LG Optimus G, there was no secret that its successor G2 is coming sometime in Q3. LG has been hinting about it for months. And most industry watchers have pegged the launch of the new smartphone for early September, around the biggest European Consumer Electronics show – IFA.
But it seems that LG has decided to join other big smartphone OEMs in a new trend – not to peg flagship device announcements to any major trade show, and do an independent launch event instead. Earlier today LG has issued invitations for an “international media event” on August 7 in New York.
LG didn’t provide any more details about what this event is about, but given the amount of teasing and hints about the upcoming LG G2 , I can’t think of any other product to launch there.
The early G2 launch probably means that LG’s new flagship will not have the long rumored flexible display. Since LG is only starting their mass production in Q4, the first LG smartphone to come with the next generation OLED will most likely be LG G2 Pro phablet, which will launch late this year or in early 2014.
LG G2 will have to settle for ultra fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU and, probably, some interesting ultra-thin design. Which should still make it a formidable competitor to Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
