Pantech enters new Asian markets with Vega No. 6 and waterproof Vega Q
Not long after it released the Pantech Vega No. 6 for the first time outside of its home country (in Hong Kong), Pantech is now further expanding its presence in South East Asia with the handset’s launch in Taiwan. Alongside the Vega No. 6, Pantech is also introducing the Vega Q PTL21 there.
The Vega No. 6 costs 19,900 TWD (about $663), featuring: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 5.9 inch IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels, NFC, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and a 3,140 mAh battery.
The Pantech Vega Q costs only 11,400 TWD (about $380), featuring a waterproof case, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 4.3 inch HD display, 8MP rear camera, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory.
Both handsets should be available in Taiwan as of today.
Since Pantech has introduced many smartphones in the US in the last few years, maybe it will sell the Vega No. 6 there, too. We’ll let you know if we hear anything about this.
At the moment, Pantech is South Korea’s third largest smartphone maker, obviously behind Samsung and LG. With its recent forays into new territories, the company hopes to increase its global market share. It remains to be seen if it manages to do it in a significant way.
