Nokia’s Lumia 1020 41MP WP8 handset officially announced, AT&T will launch it on July 26 for $299.99
Nokia has officially unveiled the brand new Lumia 1020 Windows Phone 8 handset – previously known as Eos.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop himself has showcased the 1020 on stage. As expected, the new smartphone comes with a 41MP PureView camera that features Xenon flash, Zeiss wide-angle optics (there are a total of six lenses), and optical image stabilization (for both photos and video).
Naturally, this new 41MP camera uses the same pixel oversampling technique introduced by Nokia last year with the Symbian-based PureView 808 smartphone. Oversampling is used not only for photos, but also when shooting video.
“Using a new feature called dual capture, the Nokia Lumia 1020 simultaneously takes a high resolution 38 megapixel image for endless editing opportunities, and creates a 5 megapixel picture that is easy to share to social networks with Windows Phone 8.”
Another novelty is the Nokia Pro Camera app – which lets you easily change manual exposure values, shutter speed, ISO settings, focus (including manual focus) and so on.
Camera goodness aside, the 1020 features: a 4.5 inch AMOLED WXGA (1280 x 768) display, LTE and global connectivity, Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC, free global HERE Maps and HERE Drive+, dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB of internal memory, 7GB of free storage space on SkyDrive, and a 2,000 mAh battery. The handset measures 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm, and weighs 158 grams.
In the US, the Lumia 1020 is going to be available exclusively at AT&T starting July 26, for $299.99 on contract (this making it Nokia’s first Windows Phone handset priced at over $200 on contract). Pre-orders will start at AT&T on July 16. Three color versions will be available: white, black, and yellow.
The new WP8 handset will be also released in various other markets around the world starting this quarter – including in China, Europe, and Latin America.
