Apple testing larger screens for iPads and iPhones. 13″ iPad on the way?
Samsung apparently isn’t the only company thinking about developing a tablet that’s got a screen that’s bigger than 10 inches. Apple wants in on the action too.
Well, the Cupertino-based iDevice maker at least is actively testing bigger tablets. And bigger iPhones too. According to a report from the WSJ, citing the company’s Asian suppliers, Apple has asked for iPhone screens larger than 4 inches (which is the size of the panel seen in the iPhone 5), and tablet screens coming in at a tad less than 13 inches.
This is all for testing purposes, at least at the moment. So don’t take this to mean that a 13-inch iPad is going to be in stores soon. Even if Apple decides to launch a bigger tablet, this clearly won’t happen this year. But it’s definitely good to hear that Apple isn’t stuck in its ways, and is actively experimenting with form factors and gadget sizes. After all, one of the main criticisms aimed at the company recently has been that it’s too conservative about its phones’ screen sizes.
So will an Apple phablet one day become reality? It’s unclear. But even if it doesn’t, at least now we know that Apple once considered the possibility.
