Sony Xperia ZR currently receiving update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
Following in the footsteps of some of its higher-specced siblings, the Sony Xperia ZR appears to currently be in the process of receiving a software update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Like virtually all of Sony’s recently launched devices, the Xperia ZR arrived on the market running the first iteration of Jelly Bean, which is Android 4.1. But now owners of the ZR can look forward to being updated to a newer version. 4.2.2, however, isn’t the newest bit of Android anymore, since 4.3 was announced just last week. However, if you own the Xperia ZR, once again we have good news – Sony has already confirmed that this device (along with others) will also be updated to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean at some point in the future.
Of course, manufacturers have been known to backtrack from such claims from time to time, so you can still hold those fingers crossed. Also, whether or not the Xperia ZR will ever get a chance of seeing the next version of Android (possibly 5.0), codenamed Key Lime Pie, which should arrive later this year, is another discussion entirely.
Anyway, the 4.2.2 update bears the build number 10.3.1.A.0.244, and it’s started rolling out in Norway (hence the language in the screenshot above). Other countries and territories should see it soon, but do keep in mind that this is almost certainly a staggered rollout, so it may take a few days (or even weeks) for it to reach your particular device.
