Nokia Lumia 1020 will be released in China on August 15

Already launched in the US – where AT&T is offering it for $299 on contract – Nokia’s new Lumia 1020 Windows Phone 8 handset is now ready to go on sale in the world’s largest mobile market: China.

According to ePrice, the 1020 will be available in China starting August 15. It will be really expensive: 5,990 CNY – meaning about $978, or €736. China Unicom seems to be the first Chinese carrier that will offer the Lumia 1020.

Seeing how sales in the US aren’t really great, Nokia may want to lower the handset’s price soon. Yes, this is the best cameraphone you can get at this time. But not everyone’s impressed by that – especially when there are so many other nice options around.

Nokia China’s website is also listing the cheaper Lumia 625. However, we don’t know when this will be launched.

If we’re talking about Europe, it looks like the Lumia 1020 will arrive here only starting early September (when the Lumia 625 should be widely available, too).
