BlackBerry 9720 already available in the UK, SIM-free for £179.98

Surprise! The BlackBerry 9720 is already in stock at one UK-based online retailer of SIM-free and unlocked smartphones.

This handset was announced by the Canadian company formerly known as RIM a few days ago, and shortly after that we found out that it would be released in the UK in September.

However, if you’ve been craving this device, you’ll be happy to know that the aforementioned report was wrong, as the 9720 is already up for grabs in the UK. One thing to keep in mind, though: if you’d rather get it with a contract from an operator, you’ll probably need to wait until next month.

For now though, if SIM-free is your thing and the BlackBerry 9720 is the object of your desire, then you should head over to Unlocked Mobiles as soon as possible. The retailer is offering the smartphone for £179.98, VAT included. And it’s arrived in stock today.

As the pricing certainly implies, the BlackBerry 9720 is not a high-end device by any stretch of the imagination. It doesn’t even run BlackBerry OS 10, which is the company’s latest software offering.

The 9720 comes with a 2.8-inch 480×360 touchscreen, a 5 MP camera, an 806 MHz single-core processor, 512 MB of RAM, 512 MB of internal storage, microSD card support, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1,450 mAh battery. It runs BlackBerry OS 7.1.
