New Asus FonePad HD 7 detailed alongside MeMO Pad HD 8 and MeMO Pad HD 10
Asus is working on more and more Android devices, always more devices… to flood the market with. And unfortunately, they all have funky names too. One week ago we brought you news about a few of the company’s upcoming wares, and today we get details on one of those, as well as some others. Get ready to quickly become confused by Asus’ naming scheme (even though we assume it was designed to have the exact opposite effect).
First off, the FonePad is going to get a refresh soon. This will be similar to the upgraded FonePad that’s been for sale in Taiwan for a while, because it will also pack a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor. That said, the new FonePad, now named FonePad HD 7, will also bump up the rear camera’s resolution from 3 MP to 5 MP. Not a huge deal, but anyway. The new FonePad will come in 8 GB and 32 GB versions, and the rest of the specs seem to be unchanged from the initial model, even though the software has received an upgrade, and the refreshed tablet will launch running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Aside from the aforementioned hardware, the new FonePad HD 7 will also have a 7-inch 1,280×800 touchscreen, 1 GB of RAM, and a 1.2 MP front camera.
Moving on, we come to the Asus MeMO Pad HD 10. Do not confuse this with the already available Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10. As you may have guessed, one of the main differences between these two is the screen resolution. But it’s not the only one. Whereas the FHD model goes with an Intel CPU, the HD tablet that’s due soon opts instead for an ARM-based chipset made by Rockchip.
It will be a quad-core part clocked at 1.6 GHz, and the tablet will also sport a 10.1-inch 1,280×800 touchscreen, a 2 MP rear camera, a 1.2 MP front camera, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of built-in storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G mobile data connectivity, and it too will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean from day one.
Finally for today’s round of leaked details about Asus hardware that’s in the pipeline, we have the MeMO Pad HD 8. This was first seen on the leaked strategy slides from last week, and now we have a couple of details about it too. As is pretty obvious, this will be a tablet with an 8-inch screen. Its resolution is said to be 1,280×800, so interestingly it’s going to be just a slightly bigger MeMO Pad HD 7, since it has the same aspect ratio for the display. Some 8-inch Android tablets have so far opted for an iPad-like 4:3 ratio, but that’s not the case here it seems.
In terms of CPU, the MeMO Pad HD 8 will apparently come with the same Rockchip processor as the MeMO Pad HD 10, so a 1.6 GHz quad-core part. Oh, and the 8-incher will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean as well.
The Asus PadFone Mini and the MeMOFone HD 5 are still mysteries at the moment, but we expect some info to leak about them too pretty soon.
