First Sony Honami Xperia Z1 teaser image shows up

Sony is getting ready to officially unveil a new flagship smartphone – currently conedamed Honami, and possibly called Xperia Z1 when it hits the market.

The handset will be announced on September 4, the same day when Samsung will present its Galaxy Note III and Galaxy Gear.

Unlike Samsung, Sony is already posting teaser images of the Honami / Z1. There’s one that appeared on Twitter today – see here. Unfortunately, it doesn’t reveal much, just a power button alongside this description: “It’s the smartphone everyone’s been talking about… not long now.”

The new Sony smartphone will try to compete with Nokia’s Lumia 1020 (which is considered the best cameraphone around). It will feature a 20MP “G lens” rear camera, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Full HD display (its size is not known at the moment), and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

The Xperia Z1 should be available in at least three color versions: black, purple, and white. It remains to be seen exactly when Sony will start selling the handset. In any case, I assume it will be shipped to most regions around the world.

Following the recent trend, Sony might also release a mini version of the Honami. Of course, nothing’s confirmed until Sony says it is, so let’s wait and see what happens.
