Waterproof ZTE Reef with Android Jelly Bean launched by Virgin Mobile
Virgin Mobile USA has started selling the ZTE Reef – its first waterproof smartphone (it is IPX7-certified, thus it resists in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes).
As most of Virgin’s Android handsets, the Reef is an affordable, entry-level device. It’s offered for $149.99 – no contract required.
Running Android Jelly Bean (version 4.1), the Reef features a 4 inch display with 800 x 480 pixels, 1MP front-facing camera, 5MP rear camera with HD video recording, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Virgin Mobile Feed, Virgin Mobile ID Packs, 1GHz single-core processor (unknown manufacturer), and MicroSD card support – up to 32GB.
The 1,650 mAh battery inside the Reef can provide a talk-time of up to 9 hours, or a stand-by time of up to 6.8 hours. The handset is “certified by the independent UL Environment,” and “contains environmentally preferable materials with a minimal environmental impact.”
