Sony confirms that the Xperia Z1 Honami will be waterproof, posts more images
Sony has posted another teaser image of its upcoming flagship Android smartphone – the Xperia Z1, aka Honami. This time, we can see the entire handset, although only from the right and top sides. We also have the confirmation – seeing how the smartphone is shown underwater – that the new Xperia is waterproof (just as rumored not long ago). Sure enough, the waterproof part is by no means a surprise, since the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra also come with this capability.
The Z1 looks pretty thin, although it’s probably not thinner than the Z Ultra (which is only 6.5mm). It has a 3.5mm headset jack at the top, while the right side houses the power button, volume rocker, and what seems to be a dedicated camera key – this will be perfect for the 20MP sensor found on the back.
All in all, the Honami / Xperia Z1 looks really promising. It won’t be all about the 20MP camera, as the rest of its features are also appealing: 5 inch Full HD display, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 3,000 mAh battery, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Sony will officially announce the new Xperia on September 4, when details about its availability should be revealed. I think the company will want to sell the smartphone in as many markets as possible. EE UK has retweeted one of Sony’s teaser images – which probably means it’s among the first carriers to offer it. We’ll let you know more soon.
