Samsung Galaxy Note III and Galaxy Gear will debut on September 4, exec confirms
Samsung is holding an event on September 4 in Berlin, before the IFA fair gets underway. The company has been widely expected to introduce the Galaxy Note III on this occasion, and there have also been rumors pegging the unveiling of the Galaxy Gear smart watch at the same time too.
Now both of these things have been confirmed to The Korea Times by a Samsung executive. Lee Young-hee (pictured below) is Executive Vice President of Samsung’s mobile business, and she basically admitted that we’ll see the company’s first smart watch on September 4 alongside the Galaxy Note III.
The Galaxy Gear watch will not have a flexible screen, and it seems to be meant more like a test run for wearable technology from the Korean company. It may not get a mass-market release, in fact. It will be targeted at “young trend setters”.
As the smartphone market keeps growing, it will inevitably reach saturation in the near future, so companies such as Samsung need to diversify their offerings in order to keep growing themselves. Tablets are one thing they can invest in, but wearable technology is quickly becoming the most talked about.
Regarding the Galaxy Note III, Lee did not say anything about specs, but these have been leaked countless times so far so we’re not complaining. The clock is ticking, and there are only eight days left until the big Unpacked event.
