12 inch Apple and Samsung tablets rumored again
New rumors coming out of Taiwan are reaffirming that both Apple and Samsung are currently developing large tablets that feature displays of around 12 inches.
As previously mentioned, Apple is seemingly working with Quanta Computer to manufacture its large iPad – which may sport a 12.9 inch screen (of unknown resolution). Quanta could also be the company that will make Apple’s iWatch.
According to DigiTimes and “sources from the upstream supply chain”, Samsung is developing its 12 inch tablet in house. Reportedly, Samsung initially wanted its new large tablet to be released in collaboration with Google, probably as a Nexus device (like the Nexus 10 that’s been available since last year). But Google is focusing on smaller tablets at the moment, so the South Korean company had to abandon this plan. As a result, it intends to launch the tablet on its own, almost surely including it in the Galaxy family.
There is no word on when Apple and Samsung will be ready to commercialize their 12 inch tablets. It may not happen until next year anyway. If that’s the case, Samsung’s 12 inch device will probably run Android 4.4 KitKat.
Later this month, on October 22, Apple should announce a new 9.7 inch iPad, as well as a new 7.9 inch iPad Mini.
