5.5″ Changhong Z9 with 5,000 mAh battery goes on sale for $409
It’s incredibly hard to find a 7″ or 8″ tablet that has a 5,000 mAh battery, let alone a smartphone or phablet. So you can imagine that those who like their devices to last them as long as possible are simply ecstatic right now, because the Changhong Z9 has become available.
Yes, you probably haven’t heard about this handset before. Well, we told you that it was coming back in August, and now it’s finally out. Only in China, of course – shouldn’t you have expected this caveat? The land of all things affordable hasn’t disappointed, and the Z9 is priced at 2,499 yuan – which is about $409 or €301 at the current exchange rates.
The Changhong Z9 is just 9 mm thin, and indeed it packs a monster 5,000 mAh battery. It’s sealed, but with such a capacity we doubt you’ll ever feel the need to replace it. The Z9 also has a 5.5-inch 720p HD touchscreen, a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage space expandable via microSD, an 8 MP rear camera, a 1.3 MP front camera, and it runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Hopefully this thing will catch on in China and make more international players in the smartphone space notice that there’s a real need for devices with bigger batteries. If a Chinese upstart can cram a 5,000 mAh unit in a handset that’s just 9 mm thin, then surely Samsung, LG, and Sony can do the same?
