LG Nexus 5 official images outed along with $349 starting price
Another day, another Nexus 5 leak. At this rate, by next week every article you read will be about this particular device. That is – unless Google finally decides to do the right thing and make it official (in which case all the stories will be about how quickly it sold out, or something like that).
Anyway, today’s leak may signify that we are in fact ever closer to the actual unveiling of this handset. That’s because the leak originates at Google’s own Play Store, where the Nexus 5 will be for sale. The listing for it actually went up, complete with press renders, for a short while. This was either a mistake, or Google simply teasing us. Regardless, we now know that the Nexus 5 will start at $349.
We’re assuming that’s for a 16 GB version, although the Nexus 4 did have an 8 GB variant. Regardless, it looks like the next Nexus smartphone will only be $50 more expensive than the Nexus 4 was when it went on sale, which is a rather amazing accomplishment given the rumored specs involved. So once again, Google and LG are going to sell a Nexus almost at cost (through the Play Store at least).
Thanks to a leak from yesterday we know that the Nexus 5 will be offered by carriers too, and in that case you should expect a lower price but a requirement for signing a two-year contract (or three-year, in Canada). The renders from yesterday seem to have been spot on in terms of what’s new with Google’s launcher and new app icons. Here too transparency is featured in both the status bar as well as the navigation bar, and a few apps have new, fresh icons, as you can see.
