LG Nexus 5 press images leak with carrier branding
The LG-made Nexus 5 has leaked more times than we can count. At this point, it’s hopefully only a matter of days before it becomes official. We’ve seen it in many pictures, yet all of those were showing it out and about. What we haven’t yet had were press renders of the smartphone. Until now, that is.
So here they are. A couple of images showing the device’s front, and unfortunately that alone. These do look pretty convincing, so they may in fact be leaked and not drawn up by an eager fan.
What they show us, aside from the trademark understated look of the Nexus line, is that the Nexus 5 will be offered in Canada by Telus. And that means it’s probably going to be sold elsewhere by carriers too. Obviously buying unlocked from the Play Store should still be an option, but those who love long term commitments with carriers will be happy as well.
You can also see the new launcher, which may or may not be called Google Experience, doing its thing in the first image above. This will feature a transparent status bar and the navigation buttons will have their own transparency too, replacing the black bar we’ve gotten used to. Both of these transparencies may only be there in the launcher, and they could revert to black in any other app – keep that in mind. Still, it’s a fresh look, this – undoubtedly.
Some new icons are also going to be in Android 4.4. KitKat, and the Hangouts app takes over from Messaging as the default option for that activity (although we’re assuming the ‘old’ Messaging app will still be available).
Seriously, Google – just announce this thing already.
