Are HTC and LG competing with Asus to make Google’s next Nexus tablet?
According to Taiwanese media (specifically the Commercial Times), Google has not decided what company will manufacture its next Nexus tablet. Reportedly, the Mountain View giant will select the manufacturer in December, and it could be any of these three: Asus, LG, HTC.
There is no word if this next Nexus tablet is the rumored 10 inch one, or another device with a screen of different dimensions. In any case, it would not make too much sense for Google to introduce a new 7 inch tablet anytime soon, as the second-generation Nexus 7 is quite new, being launched in July. So it’s probably a larger tablet anyway.
HTC’s official position regarding the matter is that it “does not comment on rumors or speculation.” LG and Asus have also declined to comment.
Earlier today, we told you that HTC is preparing to release a smartwatch (following Sony and Samsung), as well as a tablet that should be “nice and disruptive.” Could this be related to the new Nexus tablet? We can’t know for now, but we’ll probably going to find out soon.
It’s said that HTC may also develop no less than three smartphones for Amazon.
Asus has already collaborated with Google for the first and second Nexus 7, while LG is making the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 smartphones. As for the first Nexus 10 tablet, this is made by Samsung.
