Android 4.4 KitKat update for HTC One arriving within 90 days. Samsung Galaxy Nexus is too old to be updated
Android 4.4 KitKat has been officially announced today – alongside the LG Nexus 5 – which means that smartphone makers can start planning updates.
HTC is the first to provide a time frame for KitKat updates, saying that all versions of its One flagship would get the new iteration of Android in the next 90 days. The HTC One Google Play edition should be updated within 15 days, while the HTC One Developer Edition will receive the update within 30 days. There is no word on when HTC has scheduled updates for the One Mini and One Max.
Of course, Google’s Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will also get KitKat in the near future, namely “in the coming weeks.” As for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, released back in November 2011, this will not be updated, remaining on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. According to Google (support page in Spanish), the reason for this is that the Galaxy Nexus is older than 18 months.
Other companies, including LG and Sony, will probably unveil their KitKat upgrade schedules pretty soon.
