Xiaomi will sell Red Rice phone in Taiwan soon
Xiaomi has been incredibly successful in China in its short history of just a few years. However, lately it seems more and more that the company is intent on spreading globally (even if slowly).
While we’re still waiting to see Xiaomi’s wares in stores in the so-called ‘developed world’, one of its products is due to launch in Taiwan soon. We’re talking about the Red Rice, Xiaomi’s cheapest smartphone ever, which is being sold in China for just 799 yuan ($131, €97 at the time of writing).
Understandably because of its price and the fact that it has decent midrange specs, the Red Rice has been a hit for Xiaomi in the mainland, and now that may apply to Taiwan as well. That is according to an unnamed source that spoke to Focus Taiwan.
What’s more, the Xiaomi Red Rice is set to be a little bit cheaper in Taiwan than it is in China, for whatever reason. The company is now in the process of testing the Red Rice on Taiwanese mobile networks, and adjusting its MIUI Android-based software to the needs and tastes of Taiwanese customers.
The launch should happen before the end of this month.
