Pics of HTC’s M8 2014 flagship back cover leak, with a hole for fingerprint scanner at the top

HTC’s bid for a turnaround with One flagship this year, failed. Though that may not have been the One’s fault. During the earnings conference call earlier this week, HTC execs said that the One sales did fine this year, with shipping numbers exceeding those of similar flagships in 2012. The main reason for decline was the collapse of demand for their mid-tier handsets.

So HTC is now busy developing their new flagship, codenamed M8 for 2014, which they’ll probably announce in February. According to Taiwanese ePrice, the first pictures of HTC M8 back cover leaked today to the Net. They show device very similar to the One, with one more hole at the top, probably for fingerprint recognition sensor. Placing such sensor at the top, instead of below camera makes a lot of sense.

The rumored specs For HTC M8 include Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, 3GB of RAM and Sense 6 UI. The screen should be in 5 to 5.2” range, and will probably follow overall 2014 flagship trend of 2K display resolution.

That’s all we know or suspect about HTC’s next flagship device today. But now that leaks started flowing, expect to hear much more about M8 in the coming weeks.

If they could make it at least an 8MP sensor with those large pixels I would probably pick one up.
